Charly’s childhood was spent between the English countryside and the beautiful islands of the Seychelles, of which her mother is a native. Aged 13, she moved to Oxford after winning a Music Scholarship at St Edward’s School. Alongside her musical studies, Charly was a keen linguist, choosing both French and Spanish at A-level. However, her love of music triumphed and she went on to gain a First Class Degree in music from the University of Leeds.
Following her degree, Charly returned to Oxford where she gained her PGCE with a specialism in Primary Languages. She has remained in Oxford ever since; teaching in Key Stage 1, first at Chandlings and later at St Hugh’s, Carswell where she was also the Pre-Prep English Coordinator. For the past four years, Charly has taught in the Pre-Prep at Summer Fields School, where she also runs one of the boarding houses, alongside her husband Ollie.
Charly is particularly passionate about igniting a love of reading in young children; as an experienced phonics practitioner, she has worked with a range of abilities, including those with specific learning difficulties. Her enthusiasm and warmth help her foster a happy learning environment where children are able to thrive.
Charly is the mother of two daughters and owner of far too many pets! In her spare time, Charly enjoys long dog walks and bike rides with her family.
